Into the Inkdark: release date, Collector Boosters and Illustrious cards explained

Into the Inkdark is Disney Lorcana's 15th main set and its first villain-themed one. It is also the biggest change to how Lorcana is sold since launch: it brings Collector Boosters and a new top rarity, Illustrious.

When does Into the Inkdark release?

Ravensburger has announced a Q1 2027 release. TCGplayer has already listed the set with a 5 February 2027 date and an estimated ship date of 12 February 2027 on its pre-sale products — the best date to plan around until the official one is confirmed. US pre-orders at most stores typically open six to eight weeks before release; European stores already list Collector Booster displays.

What is a Collector Booster?

Collector Boosters are a premium pack sold in 12-pack displays. Every card in a Collector Booster is a premium foil — 12 per pack — rather than the one foil of a standard booster. Standard booster boxes, Illumineer's Troves and starter decks still exist alongside them.

What are Illustrious cards?

Illustrious is a new rarity found only in Collector Boosters. Each Illustrious card is serialized: only 23 numbered copies exist worldwide. The first one revealed was an Illustrious Evil Queen. Serialized cards have split the community — collectors love the chase, players worry about an "arms race" — but in other games that print serialized cards, such as Magic: The Gathering, they have quickly become among the most valuable cards in their sets.

Should you pre-order?

For Lorcana's recent sets, pre-order boxes from local stores at or near MSRP have usually been cheaper than the open market in release week, then sold below MSRP a month or two later. With Collector Boosters a brand-new product, the first allocation is likely to be tight. If you want a display at retail, a pre-order is the safest way to get one.
